U.S.-Funded Development Projects Paused
The Government of Nepal has announced a 90-day suspension of seven U.S.-funded development projects following an order from President Donald Trump to evaluate the efficiency and alignment of foreign aid with U.S. foreign policy. The paused projects span sectors including education, health, agriculture, and statistics, with funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Additionally, three projects related to provincial and local administration, biodiversity, and climate, still in the design phase, have been put on hold. Earlier, two major infrastructure projects under the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) were also paused. The implications of these suspensions on Nepal’s development initiatives remain to be seen.
